Dhanbad, July 6: Three students of Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) Sindri have been selected among the top 50 Women of Mettle (WoM) engineering students across the country in the annual competition of Tata Steel.

The selected students are Divya Kacchap (mining engineering), Shruti Kumari (electrical engineering) and Sonal (metallurgy engineering).

WoM is a pioneering scholarship programme of Tata Steel that gives a unique opportunity to young female engineering students to experience and work on real-life problems.

The company selects the top 50 female engineering students across the country every year through competition for internships aimed at encouraging bright young minds in engineering and management institutes to hone their skills in areas such as research, development, operational excellence, business strategy and management.

Chairman of BIT Sindri Career Development (CDC) Dr Ghanshyam giving this information said that students of the institution (BIT) have once again proved that they are the best among engineering students in the country and there is no alternative to hard work and meritorious efforts.

“We make special preparations for such programme to our students. Tata Steel holds two national-level competitions- ‘Women of Mettle’ and ‘Mind over Matter’ for the selection of top engineering students. We prepare our students for both races and have got results every year,” said Dr Ghanshyam.

Last month BIT Sindri bagged 2nd rank among engineering colleges of the country in terms of merit of students in the survey conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi.

BIT Sindri Director Dr DK Singh expressed satisfaction over the selection and highly praised the CDC wing. “It is a matter of immense pleasure that 3 students from BIT are among top 50 Women of Mettle. I wish them best of luck for their future,” he said.
