Malaysia Masters: Sai Praneeth makes winning start, Sameer Verma loses in R1

Kuala Lumpur, July 6: The Malaysia Masters 2022 campaign of Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth got off to a roaring start on Wednesday with a victory over Kevin Cordon of Guatemala.

In a 26-minute encounter on Court 3, Praneeth defeated Cordon by scores of 21-8, 21-9. The Indian shuttler dominated both matches and advanced quickly to the second round.

On the other side, against Taiwan’s Chou Tien-Chen, Sameer Verma of India dropped his opening men’s singles match in the ongoing Malaysia Masters 2022.

At Court 3, Chou Tien-Chen defeated Verma in a 52-minute match by scores of 10-21, 21-12, and 21-14.

Malvika Bansod lost to Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei earlier on Tuesday in the opening round of the women’s singles division. Bansod, who was on court 2, was defeated by a score of 21-10, 21-17. The match was decisively won by her Malaysian opponent in just two games.

In the women’s doubles division on court 1, the Indian team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela was defeated by the Malaysian team of Thinaah Muralitharan and Tan Pearly in the opening round.

In the women’s singles match later that day, Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will face China’s He Bingjiao, and HS Prannoy will compete against France’s Brice Leverdez. Saina Nehwal will compete against Kim Ga-eun of South Korea.
