New Delhi, July 9: Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Airtel and Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio might directly be competing with billionaire Gautam Adani’s business when it makes a sudden foray into the race for telecom spectrum as claimed by the latest reports.
The highly sought-after 5G spectrum required for high-speed internet connectivity will be up for auction soon from the telecom department.
At least four applications were submitted before the deadline on Friday to participate in the July 26 airwave auction, which will include those capable of delivering fifth-generation or 5G telecom services including ultra-high-speed internet connectivity.
Three sources with knowledge of the situation claimed Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, the three private telecom players, applied for the auction.
According to one of the sources, Adani Group is the fourth applicant and that company just recently received its National Long Distance (NLD) and International Long Distance (ILD) licences.
The four participants would initially have to submit ownership information by July 12 and then a certificate of bidder-ownership compliance. The pre-qualification of bidders will follow that. Companies will have the option to withdraw their auction applications by July 19; the following day, bidders will be revealed. On July 27, the auction is anticipated to start.
Adani’s enterprise data business would face competition from domestic telecom providers as well as global internet behemoths like Google and Amazon. It would be a wise decision to purchase a little bit of millimetre band spectrum—which provides great speed and is reasonably priced—and support it with a modest amount of 3.5 GHz band spectrum.
