New Delhi, July 10: Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, a compound mixed team from India, defeated their Mexican opponents in the World Games by one point to take home the bronze medal. The Indian team had a flawless first round, but Andrea and Miguel Becerra put up a fight and tied the game in the second end.

However, Verma and Jyothi maintained their composure to come back strongly in the third end before putting in a flawless final round to win their bronze medal playoff on Saturday with a score of 157-156.

According to a statement from the Archery Association of India, this was the first medal India has ever won at the World Games, and for former World Cup gold medalist Verma, this was his 50th international podium finish.

Verma is now the only archer from India to have won medals at every compound archery competition, including the World Games, World Championship, World Cup Final, Asian Games, and Asian Championship.

However, Verma’s solo campaign came to an end in disappointment after his incredible run in which he defeated Mike Schloesser of the USA, the world’s best player and champion, in the quarterfinals.
