New Delhi, July 15: The two-time Olympian PV Sindhu prevailed over Han Yue of China in a match that lasted more than an hour on Friday to secure a spot in the semifinals of the Singapore Open Super 500 Tournament.

The first game was difficult for the World No. 7 since Han was precise with her placement and scored the first point. However, the Indian came back fiercely to take the second game and secure the victory 17-21 21-11 21-19 in the 62-minute match.

In their head-to-head matchup, Sindhu presently leads the Chinese 3-0. It remains to be seen if Sindhu can advance all the way in their final competition before the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. This was Sindhu’s first semifinal appearance since the Thailand Open in May.

Next, Sindhu will play unseeded Saena Kawakami of Japan, the world’s No. 38, who upset the odds by defeating Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, the sixth seed, 21-17, 21-19.

Later on in the day, two more Indians, the seasoned Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy will compete for spots in the tournament’s final four.
