Ranchi, July 21: The Jharkhand High Court did not provide any relief to convicts of Kochang gape rape, Johns Jonas Tudu and Balram Samad.
They had knocked on the door of the High Court after the lower court awarded them life imprisonment in a case of gang rape registered in Khunti in June 2018. The lower court order in the case came on May 17, 2019.
A high court lawyer informed this saying Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay rejected their petition challenging the conviction and punishment order of the lower court.
“They had submitted before the court that an accused in the case Father Alphanso was granted bail. On which the court said that Father’s case was different and did not give any relief,” the lawyer said.
The case was registered in Khunti after five girls associated with an NGO were abducted and gang-raped. The incident took place when the Pathalgadi movement was going on in the district.
Other than Johns Jonas Tudu and Balram Samad, four including Father Alphanso, Baji Samad alias Takla, Jonas Munda and Ajoob Sandi Purti were also convicted and given life sentences in the case. The lower court had considered Father Alphonso as the conspirator of the incident.
