New Delhi, July 27: Manik Bhattacharya, a member of the Trinamool Congress, arrived at the Enforcement Directorate’s office in Kolkata on Wednesday morning before he was required to do so in order to be questioned about his suspected role in the teacher recruitment fraud.

It was requested that Bhattacharya, a politician from Palashipara in the Nadia district and a former president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, be present at the ED office in the CGO building in Salt Lake at noon; nevertheless, he arrived at that location at 10 am.

On July 22, representatives of the central agency searched Bhattacharya’s home. He was then asked to appear before the central agency for interrogation. Partha Chatterjee, a state minister, and Arpita Mukherjee, a colleague, were transported to the ESI hospital in Joka for a checkup, according to the sources.

The ED, which is looking into the scam’s purported money trail, had taken more than 20 crore rupees in cash, jewellery, and foreign currency from Mukherjee’s flat. They are both currently being held by ED.

When the alleged appointment scam allegedly occurred, Chatterjee, TMC secretary general and legislative affairs portfolio holder, was in charge of education.
