New Delhi, July 27: Sanjay Singh, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, is the newest of 24 suspended from the Parliament for “unruly behaviour.” Following his yesterday act of throwing papers at the Chairperson, Singh was today suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of this week.
Twenty Rajya Sabha members are among the 24 MPs who have already been suspended. The suspension comes a day after 19 opposition party MPs, including seven from the TMC and six from the DMK in addition to those from the TRS, CPI-M, and CPI, were suspended for their disorderly conduct in the parliament.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh used Rule 256 and cited Singh for shredding papers and hurling them at the Chair on Tuesday shortly after the House convened for Question Hour at 12 o’clock. The deputy chairman said that Singh’s behaviour was a complete disdain for the norms and the Chair’s authority.
Shortly after, V Muraleedharan, the minister of state for parliamentary affairs, submitted a motion suspending Mr. Singh from the House for the rest of the week. Even while members of the opposition continued to cause a commotion in the house well, the motion was approved by voice vote.
Soon after the motion was approved, the deputy chairman asked Singh to leave the room. The deputy chairman briefly adjourned the House for 15 minutes amidst persistent sloganeering by opposition MPs.
