New Delhi, July 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju attended the 1st All India District Legal Service Authorities meet on Saturday at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

Ease of justice is equally important like the ease of doing business and the ease of living in this Amrit Yatra of the country.”
“As important as access to the judicial system is for any society, justice delivery is equally important. The judicial infrastructure also has an important contribution to this. In the last eight years work has been done at a fast pace to strengthen the judicial infrastructure of the country,” the PM added.
PM Modi went on to say, “Under the e-courts mission, virtual courts are being started in the country. Twenty-four-hour courts have started functioning for crimes like traffic violations. Video conferencing infrastructure is also being expanded in the courts for the convenience of the people.”

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, on the occasion, emphasized on the need to harness the skill force of India.
“Our true strength lies in the youth. 1/5th of the world’s youth lives in India. Skilled workers are only 3% of our workforce we need to harness the skill force of our country & India is now filling the global gap,” he said.
“The majority cannot pursue justice delivery mechanisms. Access to justice is a tool for social emancipation. If today we have been able to reach the doorstep of people with justice, we have to thank the able judges, spirited advocates, and the governments,” the CJI added.
On the occasion, Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju talked about National Legal Services Authority’s ‘Release UTRC@75’ campaign.
“National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has launched a campaign ‘Release UTRC@75’ from 16th July for identifying eligible prisoners and recommending the release of fit cases to Under Trial Review Committee,” Rijiju said.
“Department of Justice and National Legal Service Authority will provide integrated delivery of legal services in three areas of common interest- by strengthening consultation via tele-law, expanding base of pro-bono lawyers, empowering citizens with legal literacy,” he added.
“NALSA would provide the services of 700 lawyers, in each district exclusively for Tele Law. These lawyers would act as referral lawyers & also assist in strengthening the mechanism for dispute avoidance & dispute resolution at the pre-litigation stage,” the union minister further informed.
Justices Uday U Lalit and DY Chandrachud were also present during the event.
The first-ever national level meet of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) is being organised from July 30-31, 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). It deliberates on the creation of an integrated procedure in order to bring homogeneity and synchronisation across DLSAs.
There are a total of 676 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) in the country which are headed by the District Judge who acts as Chairman of the authority.
Various legal aid and awareness programmes are implemented by NALSA Through DLSAs and State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs). The DLSAs also contribute towards reducing the burden on courts by regulating the Lok Adalats conducted by NALSA.
