Ranchi, Aug 1: Satyadeo Roy, father of Jharkhand High court advocate Rajiv Kumar, is said to have filed habeas corpus before the Jharkhand High Court for the production of his son.

The development came in the wake of the arrest of Rajiv Kumar by Kolkata police on Sunday evening.

As per the media report, the police arrested him on the charge of extorting money from a businessman named Amit Agrawal in the name of compromising a PIL against the said businessman. After the arrest, he was taken to the Hare Street station. But Kolkata police have not disclosed anything officially about his arrest. Media reports have claimed that some cash was also recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, his family members arrived in Kolkata and hired a lawyer. A bail petition has been filed before the local court. The family members claimed that they were not allowed to meet Rajiv Kumar.

Rajiv Kumar is the lawyer of Shiv Shankar Sharma who filed two PILs related to a mining lease and allegations of shell companies and money laundering against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his associates.
