New Delhi, Aug 4: Chief Justice of India NV Ramana suggested Justice UU Lalit as his successor. On Thursday morning, CJI Ramana recommended Justice Lalit in a letter to the Central government. He also gave Justice Lalit a copy of the letter.
On August 26, CJI Ramana is scheduled to step down from his position. Justice Lalit would thereafter assume control. Given that he is expected to leave office on November 8, Justice Lalit will only hold the position for a very short time.
Justice DY Chandrachud will then take over as the CJI and hold the position for a disproportionately long period of two years.
