Jamshedpur, August 5: Crying non-stop by a toddler caused the uncle to fling from his lap causing him to get fatally injured. The ghastly incident has taken place at Bada Bhawana village under the Seraikela thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

The toddler, identified as Sohan Murmu, was first taken to Seraikela Sadar Hospital and was subsequently shifted to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to his injury early on Friday morning.

The police have arrested the killer uncle Nane Hansda who is said to be slightly eccentric.

Revealing the tragedy, Seraikela thana OC, Manohar Kumar said that the parents of the 19-month-old toddler Sohan had gone to their paddy field for cultivation leaving their son in the care of his uncle (fufa).

“As the parents delayed to return home and it was already evening, Sohan started crying instantly leading Nane Hansda to pick up the child in his lap. He first tried to pacify the toddler by moving around and tucking him in the lap but as he did not stop and continued to cry with greater intensity, he flung him down on the floor,” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com correspondent.

According to the OC, the child was senseless when his parents returned home late on Thursday evening. He said the anxious parents rushed the unconscious child to Seraikela Sadar Hospital where the doctor on emergency duty referred him to Tata Main Hospital given his critical condition. The child succumbed to his internal head injury early this morning.

The OC said Nane Hansda, who resides in the same village, had divulged the reason behind the child’s unconsciousness to the unfortunate parents as they had returned from their field. But the parents were informed about the barbaric act of Hansda after the child died.

The OC said they have sent the body to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem and are arranging to send the arrested Nane Hansda to a Ranchi-based mental hospital to see if he is an eccentric.
