New Delhi, Aug 6: Avinash Sable won India’s first-ever Steeplechase Medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK, on Saturday by breaking the 3000m Steeplechase National Record for the 9th time with a time of 8:11.20.
Avinash Sable beat the previous record of 8:12.48 set at the Rabat Diamond League earlier this year by clocking 8:11.20.

Abraham Kibiwot, a strong runner from 2022 and the silver medalist at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, won the gold by by 0.05 seconds over the Indian. Amos Serem, a Kenyan who is also the world junior champion, finished third in 8:16.83.
Conseslus Kipruto, a two-time world champion and Olympic champion from Kenya, came in sixth place overall with a time of 8:34.96.
Avinash Sable was quick out the blocks during his race at the Alexander Stadium and was in the leading pack with three Kenyan runners who had led the race in the early stages. Sable had a dismal 11th-place finish at the world athletics championships in Oregon last month after a poor start.
