PM Modi hosts CWG 2022 medal winners at official residence

New Delhi, Aug 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted all the medal winners of the Commonwealth Games 2022 at his official residence on Saturday.

This is the first time the Prime Minister physically interacted with the winners of the Commonwealth Games after their spectacular performance in Birmingham.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and MoS Sports Nisith Pramanik were also present with the PM on this occasion.

While talking to the contingent, PM Modi said, I am happy that all of you have taken time out of your schedule to come to meet me at my residence as members of the family. I, just like all other Indians, feel proud to be talking to you. I welcome you all.”

“Before commencement of CommonwealthGames, I had told you and promised you in a way that when you come back we’ll celebrate ‘Vijayotsav’ together. I was confident that you’ll come back victorious, I had also thought of meeting you even if I would be busy and celebrate Vijayotsav,” PM Modi added.

“It is a matter of pride that with your hard work and inspiring achievement, the country is entering Azadi ka Amrit Kaal. In past few weeks, nation recorded two major achievements in field of sports. Besides historic performance in CWG, for the first time country hosted Chess Olympiad,” the PM further said.

He also appreciated the unprecedented performance-from Lawn Balls to Athletics by saying, “Compared to last time, this time we paved our way to victory in 4 new sports. There was an unprecedented performance-from Lawn Balls to Athletics. With this, the interest of youth in new sports will increase. We have to further improve our performance in these new sports.”

“Looking forward to interacting with India’s CWG 2022 contingent at my residence, 13th August at 11 AM. The entire nation is proud of the accomplishments of our athletes at the games,” the PM said in a tweet on Friday.

India finished 4th in the medal tally with 22 Gold, 15 Silver and 23 Bronze medals and with a total of 61 medals at the Commonwealth Games, delivering its fifth-best performance of all time in the games’ history.
