New Delhi, Aug 19: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir on Friday confirmed that he will be a part of the upcoming second edition of Legends League Cricket.
Gambhir, who has been a part of two of India’s World Cup winning teams in 2007 (T20 World Cup) and 2011 (50-over World Cup), will be playing his first ever season with the team. Gambhir has over 6000 runs to his name in limited-overs cricket and was an integral part of the Indian team during the 2010s. Under his captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders have won two IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014.
“I am glad to share that I have committed to take part in the upcoming Legends League Cricket from September 17th onwards. I am excited in anticipation of being on a cricket field once again. It will be a privilege and an honour to rub shoulders once again with the glitterati of world cricket,” Gambhir said in an official release.
On September 16, a special game between the India Maharajas and the World Giants will take place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, and on September 17, the second season of the Legends League will start. Sourav Ganguly would be the captain of the India Maharajas, and Eoin Morgan, a former England captain, would lead the World Giants.
Ten different foreign nations’ players will take part in this encounter. The league will start the next day, September 17, 2022, with four clubs participating in a franchise model based on the Legends League Cricket. This season will include 15 total games.
