Srinagar, Aug 22: Monday’s ‘all-party meeting’ in Srinagar will be held by the National Conference (NC) to address the ‘inclusion of non-local voters’ in the updated election records in Jammu and Kashmir.

Parties such as the NC and Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party, or PDP, asserted that the administration has not addressed their main concern regarding whether ‘outsiders’ who ordinarily reside in J-K will be allowed to register as voters. The meeting will discuss the clarification issued by the administration on this matter.

“So the meeting will discuss everything threadbare. Even the clarification will be discussed. It is an all-party meeting and every party will present their point of view,” said PDP chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari.

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the NC, called the meeting to discuss the “inclusion of non-local voters” in the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir after remarks made by the chief electoral officer of the UT, Hirdesh Kumar, about the inclusion of voters in the revised rolls, incensed the local parties.

The administration issued a clarification on Saturday, claiming that the claims that there will likely be an increase in voter registration of more than 25 lakh following the brief adjustment of electoral records are “misrepresentations of facts by entrenched interests.”
