New Delhi, Aug 24: Two suspects from Gujarat’s Vapi were apprehended by Mumbai Police on Wednesday for making bomb threats against a well-known hotel in Mumbai. On Monday evening, an unidentified caller made a false bomb threat against Mumbai’s Lalit Hotel. The caller demanded Rs 5 Crore to defuse the devices, which he claimed were stored in four locations around the five-star hotel close to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
“An unidentified person called the hotel and said that bombs have been kept at four places in the hotel and demanded Rs 5 crore to defuse them,” said Mumbai Police.
The threat call, which proved out to be a fake, was reported to the police by the hotel administration. Following the warning, the police examined the hotel grounds but turned up nothing unusual.
At the Sahar Police Station in Mumbai’s Andheri East, a case has been opened under sections 336 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code. Two people were detained last month for making fictitious calls regarding a bomb-carrying individual at Mumbai’s Ambernath train station. A man was detained in March on suspicion of fabricating a bogus bomb threat on the Mumbai University campus.
