New Delhi, Aug 25: In advance of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) elections, which are set to take place on September 2, Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia submitted a new nomination on Thursday. The Rajasthan FA and the Andhra Football Association (AFA) both supported the nomination of the 45-year-old former India captain.
“I have filed my nomination for AIFF president’s post and I feel I am the right person for the job,” Bhaichung told PTI.
“I have played so many games for the country and top clubs and I also know a bit on the administrative side as I am in Mission Olympics Cell of sports ministry as well as in other committees. I want Indian football to reach new heights,” he added.
An accomplished female football player named Madhu Kumari seconded Bhaichung’s nomination for the position of president, which was made earlier with the support of Deepak Mandal, a former teammate of Bhaichung’s.
Kalyan Chaubey, a West Bengal-based BJP leader and former goalkeeper for East Bengal’s Mohun Bagan, has also submitted his nomination and is widely regarded as the front-runner for the position.
The Gujarat Football Association and Arunachal Pradesh both proposed Chaubey’s nomination.
