New Delhi, Aug 27: The Delhi Police have refused permission for comedian Munawar Faruqui’s August 28 gig because the show will affect “communal harmony in the area”, according to a report from the central district police.
The performance was slated to run from 2 pm to 9.30 pm at the Dr. SPM Civic Center’s Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium. The show was privately organised, and authorization had already been granted.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had also written to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora seeking the cancellation of stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui's show on August 28th in Delhi.

His Bengaluru performance was cancelled last week despite Faruqui’s assertions that it was because of health problems. However, the following day, he did perform in Hyderabad.
Faruqui competed in the Kangana Ranaut-hosted reality competition “Lock-Upp” in May of this year and took home the title after getting more than 18 lakh votes.
Following a complaint from Eklavya Singh Gaud, son of BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaud, that objectionable remarks about Hindu deities as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah were made during a comedy show at a cafe in Indore on New Year’s Day, Faruqui and four other people were detained by Madhya Pradesh police on January 1. Later, he was released on bail.
