Jamshedpur,  Sept 1: It did pour heavily in August, but the rainfall was not enough to make up the deficit that stood at 26 per cent at the end of the third monsoon month.

But, the good news is that more showers are holding up in the sky.

According to Met statistics, Jharkhand received 587.8 mm rain at the end of August against a normal average of 798.9 mm, a  deficit of 26 per cent.

“August recorded around 300 mm of rain in Jharkhand, which was quite impressive. Less rain in June and July led to the deficit. However, we are expecting good showers in September, the last monsoon month which will drag down the deficit,” said a senior official at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Statistics say that East Singhbhum topped the rain-o-meter till August with  965.5 mm rain. Against a normal of 858mm, the district alone registered 965.5mm rain. This was followed by West Singhbhum ( three per cent surplus) while the rest of the 22 districts notched either normal or deficit rain.

The districts that recorded deficit rainfall till August 31 are Bokaro, Chatra, Dhanbad, Giridih, Godda, Gumla, Khunti, Koderma, Pakur, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Sahibganj, Seraikela-Kharsawan and Simdega.

Statistics revealed that last year too August ended with deficit rainfall.

IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre today issued a forecast of light to moderate rain at many places over the state in the next 24 hours.
