Daltonganj, Sept 6: Palamu police on Monday arrested a naxalite named Nirmal Bhuiyan (45)  alias Bades Bhuiyan who belongs to the banned outfit TSPC in Palamu. He was on a cooling period for nine years as the last crime committed by him was in 2013.

Nirmal had a naxal case against him on March 8, 2013 and remained on a cooling period for exact nine years as on March 7, 2022 he committed another naxal crime. He followed it with another in just 21 days.

Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha described this case as that of the ‘dormant naxal who gets into action only to lie low and cool’. He added that this man is a turncoat. He started as a CPI Maoist only to switch his loyalty to the rival outfit TSPC where he was made the area commander.

Moreover, his induction in extremism was in the year 2012. He has only six cases till he was arrested and jailed on Monday.

However, SP Sinha said he has few number of cases against him as his cooling period is larger and bigger but his temerity is not less. He wanted to live like a commoner with occasional bouts of naxal crimes.

Notably, his arrest took place when he was trying to extort money from a couple, one of whom is the block programme manager in the Panki block.

He manhandled the couple for extortion but the couple showed courage and the Panki police which swung into action and foiled this extortion bid.

Sources said this area commander knew when to make a retreat and get out of the radar of the police. However, for his failed bid for extortion and mishandling of the couple proved his nemesis on Monday when he was remanded in judicial custody.
