Dhanbad, Sept 12: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) students’ fast Forward India, a social service wing, set a new record of blood donation on single day camp in the coal belt.

The students under the Centre of Societal Mission (CSM) of IIT ISM in collaboration with HDFC Bank organized a mega blood donation camp at the health centre of the institution and donated 234 units of blood. It is said to be the highest collection of blood on a single-day camp in the coal belt by any organization so far. The camp was held at IIT ISM hospital from 9 am to 5 pm on Sunday.

The donor students looked so interested that even though the organizers extended the duration of the camp from two hours to 7 pm, several of them (donors) had to return without donating blood due to long lines.

The members of Fast Forward India said that the collected blood was donated to the blood bank of the medical college and Asian Jalan Hospital to cater to the needs of helpless and needy patients.

Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College College Hospital (SNMMCH) blood bank in-charge Dr Amrendra Kumar Singh, who monitored the mega camp, said that it recorded blood donation (234 units) in single day camp organized by any organization in the region so far.

This was the second blood donation camp of  Fast Forward  India in the year. The last time they held a camp on the campus was on June 14 in which 35 units of blood were collected.

“Fast Forward India of IIT ISM students is a major donor of medical college blood bank in time of crisis.  On Sunday they created record donations at the mega camp and donated 90 units to us (SNMMCH),” said Dr Amrendra Kumar Singh, the blood bank in charge.

“Coordinators Bhavya Jain, Brajesh Meena Luvkush Mishra, Chirag Mittal, Lokesh Kumar, Abhishek Shah and Niket Gupta had done hard work on the campus for the success of this mega blood donation camp which helped Fast Forward India to set a record,” said Navdesh, one of the members of the organizing committee.

Navdesh said sometimes the life of patients especially poor victims comes to the state due to the lack of blood unavailability in hospitals/health centres. Keeping this problem in mind students’ organization Fast Forward India holds such time camps from time to time for bailing out such patients.
