Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has raised questions over the black-marketing of tickets for the India-West Indies cricket match scheduled in Ranchi on October 9, questioning the role of Ranchi Police and demanding action from the government.
Daily Wagers Allegedly Used to Buy Tickets in Bulk
Marandi alleged that daily-wage labourers and construction workers are being made to stand in queues to buy tickets, which are then sold on at two to three times the original price. He claimed that photographs and videos of the black-marketing have gone viral, and that reports on the issue have also appeared in the media.
Questions Over Police Inaction
Pointing to the lack of action despite these reports, Marandi asked why police were not acting when irregularities in ticket sales were coming to light. He urged the police to investigate the entire matter and take action against those found guilty, and asked the government to take immediate cognisance. He also demanded that Chief Minister Hemant Soren act against the touts involved.
Ordinary Cricket Fans Bearing the Brunt
The Leader of Opposition said the black-marketing directly hurts ordinary cricket lovers, many of whom are planning to watch the match with their children and families but are finding it hard to do so because tickets are available only at inflated prices. He called on the government to take the matter seriously and take immediate steps to stop the practice.
