Jamshedpur, Sept 21: Many places across Jharkhand is likely to witness light to moderate rain today, said a weather bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
Weathermen ruled out the possibility of heavy rain today and hence the Met centre did not issue any alerts.
The forecast for capital Ranchi indicates generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers activity. The low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.
The associated cyclonic circulation was extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is very likely to move west northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next two days.
A trough runs from the low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Northwest Bengal coasts to southwest Uttar Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has started withdrawing from parts of southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Kutch from September 20. The normal date of withdrawal from southwest Rajasthan is September 17.
The line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon passes through Khajuwala, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Naliya.
