Ranchi, Sept 29: The Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department’s former secretary before leaving the post directed officials to make sure that all children have the new school uniforms to use by November 15, i.e. the Jharkhand Foundation Day.
Now the colour and design of the dress of the students of classes one to five and class six to 12 will be different. Till now, the colour of the dress of the children of all the classes was the same.
As per sources, children were to be given the new clothes from the new academic session that was to begin on July 1. However, reports released earlier claimed that around Rs 84 crore allocated for two school uniforms each was returned to the state because the children did not have any kind of bank account. When questioned in this regard, state education secretary Rajesh Sharma had said, “This responsibility has for now been given to the School Management Committees under JEPC. They will now take care of the uniforms.”
Navy blue coloured pants and pink coloured shirts with navy blue ties will be given to the boys of classes one to five in the state schools. Meanwhile, girls will be given navy blue coloured skirts and pink coloured shirts.
On the other hand, the pants of the students in classes six to 12 will be green and the shirt will be white and green. The salwar of the girl students will be green and the kurta will have hues of both white and green while the dupatta will be green.
Speaking in this regard, State Project Director Kiran Kumari Pasi said, “There is going to be a change in the colour of the dress of the government school children of the state for the third time. Initially, the colours of children’s dresses were blue and white. It was changed in the year 2015-16 wherein the pants were maroon and the colour of the shirt was cream.”
Notably, earlier, the colour of buildings of government schools in the state was also changed under guidelines issued by the Jharkhand Education Project Council. Schools will now be painted green. The former education secretary further instructed that the colour of about 35 thousand government school buildings of Jharkhand be changed to the ‘the party colour’ green and off-white by November 15 as well.
As per records, in the year 2002-03, the colour of the school buildings was changed from yellow to pink. This was done after orders from the Project Director level. In the year 2014-15, the colour of the school buildings was changed again, where the colour of the school buildings was bright pink, the border was terracotta and the colour of the windows and doors was golden brown. Meanwhile, in the year 2018-19, the colour of the buildings was kept the same, but the colour of the toilet was changed.
As per information, an amount in the form of grant money is given every year to the government schools of the state. This amount is spent on repairs, painting and cleaning of the building as per the requirement. Sources say this amount is given according to the number of students.
In schools where the number of children enrolled is 30, Rs 10 thousand is given to those schools, while Rs 25 thousand is provided to a school with 31 to 100 enrollments. Similarly, Rs 50 thousand is distributed among schools with an enrollment of 101 to 250, and Rs 75 thousand is allotted to a school with an enrollment of 251 to one thousand. On the other hand, around Rs one lakh is given to schools with an enrollment of more than one thousand.
