Ranchi, Sept 29: The Special PMLA court of Prabhat Kumar Sharma in Ranchi has rejected the bail application of Jharkhand High court advocate Rajiv Kumar in cash for the PIL case. He is currently lodged at Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi. Now Rajiv Kumar is likely to move before the Jharkhand High court after the PMLA court denied his bail.
Earlier, Kolkata police arrested Rajiv Kumar on July 31 on the charge of extorting money from Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal for not implicating his name in a shell company related to PIL 4290/21. The Kolkata police claimed that Rajiv Kumar was arrested along with Rs 50 Lakh cash he extorted from Amit Agrawal.
Notably, Shiv Shankar Sharma filed the PIL. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was the respondent in the PIL which is now pending before the Supreme Court. The Kolkata police alleged that Rajiv Kumar and his petitioner filed PILs to extort money from different persons.
While Kolkata police are investigating this case, the ED also lodged an ECIR and started an investigation. The ED secured police remand of Rajiv Kumar and brought him to Ranchi where he was questioned. Rajiv Kumar got bail in the Kolkata police case. But he will have to secure bail in the ED case.
The ED is likely to file the prosecution complaint very soon. In the Rajiv Kumar case, the ED may also question petitioner Shiv Shankar Sharma.
