Dhanbad, Oct 3: Jharkhand chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed concern over the continuous attack on doctors across the state and urged the government for initiating immediate steps for checking this trend.

IMA state president Dr AK Singh said that doctors of the state feel a sense of insecurity as despite insurance from the government attack on medicos has not stopped. After Jamtara district, a  doctor in Bokaro was attacked.  All these incidents create a sense of insecurity.

“Since the health minister took a quick action over the Bokaro incident by setting up an SIT, IMA is waiting for the result,” he said.

Armed criminals on October 1 fired five shots on Dr Irfan Ansari in Bokaro on Saturday night (around 9.45 PM) near Tetulia Basti under Sector-12 police station while he was returning to his Makhadampur-based house from Muskan Hospital Chas.

IMA Bokaro chapter also condemned the incident and expressed concern over the attack on medicos.

Health Minister Banna Gupta, who was in Bokaro on Sunday, met Dr Ansari and announced an SIT to probe the firing incident besides providing security to the doctor. “IMA hopes health minister would take such drastic step which ensures a sense of security among doctors while discharging health services across the state,” said IMA state president.

Earlier on September 23, Jamtara Narayanpur community health centre (CHC) in-charge DR Krishna Kumar Gupta was attacked in his chamber by a mob following the death of two students from lightning.
