Ranchi, Oct 3: A jawan of the India Reserve Battalion sustained injuries during a night firing exercise. The incident took place when Jawan Heeranand was undergoing training at JAP-8 campus in Lesliganj in Palamu.
He was admitted to the local Medinirai Medical College Hospital, from where he was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi.
During night firing exercise, jawans are trained to aim at their targets when visibility is low. The training is not risky.
Thus when asked how come the injury took place, Superintendent of Police of Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha said the accident took place when misfired bullet changed its direction during ejection.
“Injury did not take place during firing. It happened when a misfired shot changed its direction during ejection and hit an eye,” SP Sinha said.
Asked about the condition, the SP said: ” The Jawan is stable now after an operation.”
