Jamshedpur, Oct 13: IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre has again issued an alert for light to moderate thundershowers and lightning over Jharkhand today.

Weathermen said a Western Disturbance is a trough in mid and  upper-tropospheric westerlies with its

axis at 5.8 Km above mean sea level was triggering thundershowers accompanied by lightning at several places across the state for the last two days.

“Today, too the system is going to impact Jharkhand resulting in thundershowers at several places. We have issued an alert in this regard,” said Abhishek Anand, head of Ranchi Met Centre.

The Met Office also issued an appeal asking people not to take shelter under trees during thundershowers and lightning.

Several places across Jharkhand saw lightning deaths during the past two days.

Yesterday, lightning claimed two lives at Potka block in East Singhbhum, about 30 Km away from Jamshedpur.

Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas recorded around 55 mm of rain last night. On Tuesday, the local Met centre in Jamshedpur has recorded the state’s highest rainfall of around 88 mm.

Capital Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Bokaro and several other places across Jharkhand woke up to overcast conditions today.

Statistics revealed that against a normal of 44 mm, Jharkhand in October so far had recorded  73.1 mm of rain, resulting in a surplus of 66 per cent.
