CUJ organises national webinar on diversity and inclusion

Ranchi, Oct 19: A national webinar on Diversity and Inclusion (“Women in Motion” initiative of Axis Bank), was hosted by Department of Business Administration (DBA), School of Management Sciences (SMS), Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) and Axis Bank Limited.

More than 150 participants from Central University of Jharkhand and other institutions were part of the national webinar.

The webinar started with an introductory note shared by Prof Sarang Medhakar who threw light on the role of women in society and eliminating gender gap by promoting diversity and inclusion.

Dr Pragyan Puspanjali co-convened the webinar by stating the current scenario of women and existence of glass ceiling. She presented instances on various aspects of inclusion and its misunderstandings.

Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department of Axis Bank Limited. Harish started his talk by giving several examples from the field of sports, movie industry, fashion industry etc. He presented simple examples and helped the participants understand the bias and prejudices that we hold within due to stereotypes and resistance to change. He explained how over the time period progression has taken place in various domains to promote inclusion amongst all gender.

He also broke some myths on different gender group from the LGBTQ community and differentiated between the terms sex and gender, which is often used interchangeably in an incorrect notion.

Through several videos he facilitated in making the participant understand the importance of questioning our thought process and making progressive steps. It is of utmost importance to give equal opportunities to people who belong to the marginalized communities that will not only help increase the GDP of India but also help them to grow as an individual. As he stated that “We all begin from the same place, reach the same destination but take different routes”.

In his talk he also explained the difference between equality and equity (equality+humanity) that sounds phonetically similar but it is experimentally different.

The Axis bank team threw light on how Axis bank promotes financial inclusion for the third gender (LGBTQ), women and all others who need attention and help through the initiatives of Axis Bank Foundation. They spoke about the change initiatives undertaken to bring in equity and access throughout the nation. The webinar provided an overview of challenges that a person faces in today’s era and how we can move towards a gender-neutral nation by eliminating the barriers and starting to bring change within us. The webinar concluded with a beautiful quote, “The onus of inclusion lies on the included not on those who are excluded”.

After the questions and answer round, vote of thanks was given by Prof. (Dr.) Bhagwan Singh.

The national webinar was hosted under the patronship of the CUJ vice chancellor Kshiti Bhusan Das. The webinar was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Bhagwan Singh, Head-DBA & Dean- SMS, CUJ.

The convener of the webinar was Dr. Nitesh Bhatia, Assistant Professor, DBA, SMS, CUJ and co-convener of the webinar were Dr. Pragyan Pushpanjali, Assistant Professor DBA, SMS, CUJ; Dr. Mahendra Singh, Assistant Professor, DBA, SMS, CUJ; Dr. C. Nagapavan, Assistant Professor, DBA, SMS, CUJ and Dr. Sanhita Sucharita, Assistant Professor, DBA, SMS, CUJ.
