Dhanbad, Nov 4: Jharkhand Congress working president Jaleshwer Mahto has finally tendered a public apology for his comment against the Brahmin society.

The All India Brahmin Samaj announced that since the former minister and current Congress state working president Jaleshwer Mahto has regretted and tendered an apology for his comment against Brahmin society members, the ongoing agitation against him and his effigy burning programmes have been terminated.

The spokesperson of All India Brahmin Samaj said that Jaleshwer Mahto appeared at the meeting of Brahmin Samaj at BCCL Dumra community hall yesterday (on Thursday) afternoon and tendered his apology publicly and the society excused him. “So the chapter has been closed and all types of agitations against him have been cancelled,” the spokesperson added.

Resentment had been prevailing among the Brahmin society after Jaleshwer Mahto while addressing a function on the occasion of Govardhan Puja at Matigarh in Baghmara block on October 27 alleged that Brahmins run automatic slaughterhouses across the country.

At the function, a Brahmin leader of Congress was also present on the stage and Jaleshwer Mahto sought an excuse from him saying that high-level Brahmins are involved in running slaughterhouses in the name of Christians.

As the video of his comment went viral on social media, protests and demonstrations started across the coal belt. Different Brahmin organizations across the state launched a stir and began burning Mahto’s effigy. Even his partymen deserted him.
