Islamabad, Nov 6: Pakistan President Arif Alvi offered to ‘mediate’ between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and the Shehbaz Sharif administration to reach an understanding on important issues, according to a media report on Sunday.
Alvi had visited the wounded former premier to check on his health after he sustained gunshot wounds during a protest march.
Khan (70) was leading a protest march against the Sharif administration when two gunmen opened fire on him and others seated on a truck with a container on it on Thursday in the Wazirabad district of Punjab province. Khan was shot in the right leg as a result.
Alvi and Khan also discussed the terrible political and economic circumstances facing the nation during the meeting.
The 73-year-old Alvi, who is also a member of Khan’s PTI, offered his services as a private citizen to mediate between parties in order to reach an understanding on important problems, according to the article.
According to a second report on the meeting by The News International daily, the president reaffirmed that all stakeholders should pursue their political goals and find solutions to problems within the parameters of democratic means of dialogue, negotiation, consultation, and deliberation.
