New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday morning detained Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Udaybhanu Chib, other party leaders and NSUI workers from outside the Sansad Marg police station at around 4:30 am, drawing sharp reaction from the Congress.
Congress Says Workers Were Seeking an FIR
The Congress alleged that IYC workers had been sitting on a dharna outside the police station through the night, demanding that an FIR be registered, and were picked up in the morning. The party is attacking the police over their alleged misconduct with two NSUI women workers, Ritu Barala and Athira Vijayan.
Background: NSUI Protest Against CEC
On Tuesday, the NSUI held a demonstration demanding CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. During it, a scuffle allegedly took place between Ritu Barala and a woman police officer. The Congress has accused the police of assaulting workers.
Leaders React on X
Chib shared a video of the incident on X, questioning the police action by asking what kind of justice it was to seek an FIR all night and be arrested at 4:30 am. Congress leader B.V. Srinivas, sharing a video of the action, wrote that Delhi Police is forgetting that it is paid by the people of India and not by the BJP headquarters.
