Jamshedpur, Nov 19: Two loco pilots were killed on the spot as a goods train engine they were working on was hit by a speeding express train at Rajkharsawan station yard under Chakradharpur railway division in West Singhbhum at the small hours on Saturday.
Those killed were identified as TK Sahana, a resident of Bankura and Muhammad Akhtar Alam, a resident of Burnpur in West Bengal.
Both Sahana and Alam who were loco pilots and assistant loco pilots respectively were busy getting a goods train engine charged at the railway yard at past midnight when Howrah-Mumbai Mail rammed into the loco engine, causing both of them to die on the spot.
Soon after the mishap, senior railway officials rushed to the spot and got the bodies recovered and shifted them to the Chakradharpur railway hospital morgue for postmortem.
Senior divisional commercial manager, Chakradharpur, Manish Pathak confirmed the fatal mishap at the Rajkharsawan station yard.
“Two loco pilots were killed in the mishap which took place due to collision of a stationary goods train engine with the Howrah-Mumbai Mail at the small hours today. We have set up an enquiry committee to get the reason behind the mishap investigated, ” said Pathak while talking to lagatar24.com.
A cloud of gloom has enveloped the railway official circle in Chakradharpur railway division, especially among the loco engine operators following the tragic end of two of their colleagues.
