Jharkhand team leaves for Manipur Thang-Ta national championship

Dhanbad, Nov 28: The 11-member squad from Jharkhand left for Manipur on Monday to participate in the 28th Junior National Thang-Ta championship which is to be held in Imphal from December 1 to 3.

Jharkhand Thang-Ta Association president Ranjit Kesri said that players were selected for the national championship on their performance in the state championship. In the team, Dhanbad has the highest contribution of six players followed by three from the Palamu and two from Garhwa.

The selected martial arts players are-

  • Karishma Kumari (Dhanbad)
  • Pallavi Kumari (Dhanbad)
  • Radhika Sahay (Dhanbad)
  • Sumit Tudu (Dhanbad)
  • Manish Ram (Dhanbad)
  • Saurabh Bharti (Dhanbad)
  • Sarib Khan (Palamu)
  • Sonam Kumari (Palamu)
  • Ambi Khatoon (Palamu)
  • Muskan Kumari (Garhwa)
  • Indu Kumari (Garhwa)

 

Sonamoti Kumari of Palamu and Krishna Kumar Saw of  Dhanbad are the manager and coach of the team respectively.

“Manipur is considered the favourite team of the championship but this time, we have high hopes from the Jharkhand team as players have done special preparation for it,” said Thang-Ta Association president Ranjit Kesri.

Before leaving, team manager Sonamoti and coach Krishna expressed hope that the team would perform as per expectations and bring more medals than in the previous championships.

After inclusion in the National Games as an indigenous game, Thang-Ta which is a martial art of Manipur has become significant in national sports.
