New Delhi, Dec 1: England won the toss and opted to bat first in their first Test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Thursday after the Pakistan Cricket Board declared that the match would be played as per the earlier schedule.

Following the outbreak of a virus in the Three Lions’ camp, both boards have agreed to start the match on Thursday as scheduled.

In Rawalpindi for the first Test against Pakistan, England said they would be able to deploy a starting lineup.

“The ECB has informed the PCB that they are in a position to field an XI, and, as such, the first Test will commence as per schedule today (Thursday, 1 December) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium,” ECB said in a tweet.

“The ECB has informed the PCB that they are in a position to field an XI, and, as such, the first #PAKvENG Test will commence as per schedule today (Thursday, 1 December) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium,” Pakistan Cricket Board tweeted.

Notably, on the eve of their first Test in Pakistan, England’s squad was in disarray as 13 to 14 staff members, including half of the 16-man playing squad, fell ill on Wednesday. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) were in discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about starting the first Test in Rawalpindi, due to the viral infection outbreak in their camp.
