New Delhi, Dec 2: Dwayne Bravo announced on Friday to leave the Indian Premier League and continue working with Chennai SuperKings as their bowling coach public.

Bravo was let go by the franchise during the IPL retention process despite playing a crucial role in the teams that won the championship under MS Dhoni.

The West Indies all-rounder has been named CSK’s new bowling coach while Laxmipathy Balaji takes a year off. Bravo expressed his excitement about the job and expressed his joy at being a part of IPL history.

“I’m looking forward to this new journey because it’s something I see myself doing after my playing days is fully over. I enjoy working with bowlers and it’s a role I’m excited about. From player to coach, I don’t think I have to adjust much because while I’m playing, I always work with bowlers and try to come up with plans and ideas on how to have that one step ahead of the batsmen. The only difference is I will no longer be standing at mid-on or mid-off!”.

“I never thought I would be the leading wicket taker in the history of IPL. But I’m just happy to be a part of IPL history!” said Bravo in a CSK press release.

Bravo has taken 183 wickets from 161 games, making him the IPL’s leading wicket-taker. The all-rounder has also contributed significantly to numerous Super Kings victories with 1560 runs at a strike rate of about 130.

Since 2011, Bravo has played a crucial role with the Chennai Super Kings. He participated in the Champions League T20 win in 2014 as well as the IPL victories in 2011, 2018, and 2021 for Chennai Super Kings. The Purple Cap for most wickets in an IPL season was originally won by him twice (2013 and 2015).

For Chennai Super Kings, Bravo has played a total of 144 games, taking 168 wickets and scoring 1556 runs. Bravo ended his career playing for West Indies in international cricket last year after the T20 World Cup.

Bravo made a comeback in 2019 to assist West Indies to retain the T20 World Cup title it won in 2016, defeating England in a thrilling championship match at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Bravo has been in seven T20 World Cups, and in 2012 and 2016, he helped the West Indies win the championship. In total, he made more than 500 appearances in the T20I format, appearing in 90 of them.
