Ranchi, Dec.5: A city resident, Sunil Kumar Mahto, knocked the door of the Jharkhand High Court for uninterrupted power supply in the city.

Mahto through his petition drew the attention of frequent power cuts and explained it has disturbed the normal life and other financial activities in the Jharkhand capital.

Mahto through his PIL pointed out a multi-crore scam in the energy department in the name of power supply. He, in his petition, mentioned that power is purchased at the rate of Rs 12 per unit to sell it at the rate of Rs 6 per unit.

Mahto, through his petition, demanded removal of all retired employees who have taken department under the command to promote corruption.

Those who are parties in the cases include Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), central government, state government and Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC), transmission besides power distribution companies.

Electricity is provided for 10 to 12 hours each day in Ranchi City as opposed to 24 hours. The district as a whole continues to have a power shortage because DVC and NTPC are providing less power. In the capital, where 270 MW of power was previously supplied, only 240–250 MW of power is currently accessible.

Previously, Ranchi’s rural districts received 130 to 140 MW of power, but currently, only 100 to 110 MW of power is being sent there. In the past, Namkum supplied 100–120 MW of power, but at the moment, only 80–90 MW is being provided. The lack of energy has caused a lot of distress among the populace.
