New Delhi, Jan 5: A 14-person committee has been formed by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Uttarakhand to evaluate the Joshimath land sinking and damage. The 14-person committee was established by the state BJP organisation with the assistance of Aditya Kothari, the state general secretary.

“The committee constituted on the instructions of state president Mahendra Prasad Bhatt will visit the site on January 6 and hold talks with local residents, businessmen and public representatives and submit its report to the state leadership,” Party’s state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said.

As soil subsidence persists in the district, up to 561 homes in Joshimath have reported fractures, according to the District Disaster Management Department.

The District Disaster Management Department reports that 561 homes in Joshimath have fractures, and JP Colony in Marwadi is still experiencing subsurface water seepage.

“Now cracks are appearing at places in Singhdhar and Marwadi. Badrinath NH near Singhdhar Jain locality and JP Company Gate in Marwadi, near the forest department check post, these cracks are increasing every hour which is worrying,” said Joshimath Municipal Chairman Shailendra Pawar.

According to Joshimath, the chairman of the City Board, as many as nine residences in Marwadi have reported cracks, and at the same time, cracks have started to emerge in most of the ward’s public roads.

District Magistrate Chamoli has appointed Joint Magistrate Deepak Saini to Joshimath due to an increase in landslides.

The district’s residents will be saved, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami promised earlier in the day in response to reports of soil sinking in Joshimath and cracks appearing in many of the town’s homes.
