Hazaribag, Jan 7: A team from the Archeological Survey of India(ASI) reached Obra and started their work to excavate mounds under which lies huge relics and structures of ancient times.

Notably, the team is cleaning the surface first to start digging the large mound. Superintending archaeologist Rajendra Dahuri said it will take three-four days for his team to take out relics from the mound. Obra is situated in Pathalgada block in the Chatra district.

Sources said Obra is a site of the iron age and for the first time, ASI is digging such a site in Bihar and Jharkhand. A large number of potteries were seen around this mound with the ASI team hopeful of getting some new and big facts related to the iron age.

A team of six archaeologists worked for six days to start digging a big mound here. Around 24 labourers were engaged who are asked to move cautiously removing the mud of the mound without damaging anything of archaeological importance.

Dahuri said in another three days, they will start taking out the relics underneath. A new history related to this area will come to us, added Dehuri while talking to Lagatar24.com.

Block development officer of Pathalagada, Moni Kumari who visited the site yesterday assured all help to the ASI team. This excavation will not only provide employment to villagers but also give a new identity to the Pathalagada block, she added.
