Jharkhand: Top chess players to participate in Rapid Chess C’ship on Jan 22

Dhanbad, Jan 7: Twelve times state champion Pritam Singh and other top ranks of senior, and junior boys and girls would participate in the 3rd Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial one-day open rapid prize money chess championship to be held at St Xavier School Welfare Centre, Chaibasa on January 22.

The prestigious tournament of the state is being organized by the West Singhbhum District Chess Association in which 150 top-rank senior and junior players of the state are likely to participate.

General secretary of the Association Basant Khandelwal giving this information said that  Rs 45,000  cash prize money would be given to successful players in the tournament. The champion would get a Rs 10,000 cash prize with the Navin Kumar Memorial trophy. A total of 20 players would get a cash award.

“Besides them under 7, under-9, under-11, under 13, and under -15   boys and girls winner, runners up would be also given a prize,” said general secretary  Khandelwal, who is also joint secretary of All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA).

The tournament would be played in eight rounds of 10 minutes each with 5 seconds increment.

The West Singhbhum Chess Association secretary said that the entry fee for the tournament has been fixed at RS 500. However, the entry fee for the players till class 10  students will be only Rs 300. The boarding facility would be provided to the players of outside districts.

“Due to Covid, the tournament was not held for the last two years but now the committee has decided to continue it on regular basis every year,” Khandelwal informed.
