New Delhi, Jan 16: A Swiggy delivery agent succumbed to injuries in a hospital after he fell from the first floor of a building while escaping an alleged attack by a pet dog, police said on Monday.

The delivery agent had been identified as 23-year-old Mohd Rizwan.

A case has been registered by Banjara Hills police against the dog owner, Shobana.

Notably, the pet dog attacked the delivery agent while he went for the delivery. The agent fell down the first floor of the building while trying to escape the dog.

He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while undergoing treatment on Sunday.

“It has been four days since the incident took place. The delivery boy named Rizwan died at the hospital while getting treatment. We have registered a case under IPC Section 304(A) against Shobana, who is the dog’s owner,” Banjara Hills Inspector of Police, Narender.

According to the police report, he had gone to deliver the food on January 11. When Rizwan showed up at the customer’s door, the dog, who was not on a leash, lunged at him. While running away from the animal, Rizwan tried to jump off a railing but slipped and fell, and suffered critical head injuries.

He was admitted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences by the dog owner, said the police in the statement.

The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) accused Swiggy of indifference over their delivery agent’s death. President Shaik Salauddin said, “Swiggy has neither reached out to us nor acknowledged his death yet.”

Compensation has been demanded by the organisation for the deceased delivery agent.
