Jharkhand: TSF distributes micro-enterprise tools among villagers in leasehold area

Dhanbad, Jan 24: For increasing the household income level of the people, Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), Jharia Division on Tuesday distributed micro-enterprise tools among villagers of 10 villages of its leasehold area.

TSF officials said a distribution programme was held at Jamadoba in which selected 36 beneficiaries were given 27 sewing machines, one Xerox machine and eight handcarts.

“The aim of this initiative was to increase the household income level of the beneficiaries in the area by monthly Rs 5,000. Tata Steel Foundation will bear 75 per cent of the cost of these machines with the remaining 25 per cent to be paid by the beneficiary,” said the TSF official.

He further added that Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), Jharia division, has been providing continuous support for the promotion of alternative livelihood sources across different villages of the Jamadoba group, where local communities are largely engaged in mining and mining-related occupation.

On the basis of a survey conducted by the Foundation, micro-enterprise has been identified as a key sector for an alternative source of livelihood in the Jamadoba group for the local community engaged in mining.

 This project is aimed towards providing micro-enterprises for enhancing the livelihoods of the identified households. Tata Steel Foundation, Jharia unit also conducted an MSME awareness camp in collaboration with the district MSME department, Dhanbad.
