New Delhi, Feb 12: The Indian cricket board (BCCCI) announced on Sunday, February 12, that left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat had been dropped from the Indian team for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Unadkat will participate in the Ranji Trophy final between Saurashtra and Bengal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s second test will begin on February 17 in New Delhi, and the Ranji Trophy final will begin on February 16 in Kolkata.

Notably, Saurashtra qualified for the Ranji Trophy final for the third time in the previous four seasons. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, Saurashtra defeated Karnataka by 4 wickets under the leadership of interim captain Arpit Vasavada. Bengal, on the other side, easily defeated Madhya Pradesh, the reigning champions, to secure their berth in the championship game.

During India’s tour of Bangladesh last year, Jaydev Unadkat returned to the Test field, and he was selected for the team for the first two Tests against Australia. Unadkat was not replaced in the squad by anyone named by the BCCI.

Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav are some of the pace-attacking players in India’s 16-man roster for the second test.

India defeated Pat Cummins-led Australia by an innings and 132 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Only four of the 20 wickets that were lost in the first Test were taken by pacers, as spin twins R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja both took 15 wickets in Nagpur, confusing the Australian hitters. In the first Test, India used a 5-man bowling attack and inserted Shami and Siraj before Umesh and Unadkat, with Axar Patel serving as the third spinner.
