New Delhi, Feb 24: Councilman Pawan Sehrawat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday joined the BJP. Sehrawat is a Bawana ward councillor.

Minutes before the Standing Committee elections, the announcement was made. Sehrawat said that he was under pressure to stir up trouble in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House after joining the BJP. He further stated that he was being choked by AAP politics.

Notably, AAP and BJP councillors battled and exchanged blows at the MCD house on Thursday, only one day after the city elected a new mayor, causing more commotion and sloganeering. Since Wednesday night, the MCD house has been adjourned nine times, and the commotion persisted through the night. The House will reconvene at 10 a.m. on Friday.

On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House was suspended for the day as protests and chanting over the choice of six standing committee members persisted.

In the MCD House chamber on Wednesday night, many members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) traded punches and threw plastic bottles at one another. Earlier on Wednesday, Shelly Oberoi was chosen mayor of Delhi.

Mobile phones may be used to cast votes in the Standing Committee, according to Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi. The BJP objected to the use of mobile devices, claiming that it would jeopardise voting confidentiality. Despite a commotion in the House, voting continued. Nevertheless, following the 47th vote, voting was halted.
