New Delhi, Feb 24: The members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the grand old party’s top decision-making body, will be chosen by party president Mallikarjun Kharge without a vote being cast.

Over 50 people voted against holding elections for the Congress Working Committee at a meeting called by members of the Mallikarjun Kharge-led Congress Steering Committee, according to party sources.

In-charge of the All India Congress Committee from Tamil Nadu Dinesh Gundu Rao said,”The Congress Steering Committee has reposed full faith in the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge. He is the elected Congress president and won with more than 85 per cent votes of PCC delegates.”

“We have full faith in our leadership and have decided that there will be no elections for the Congress Working Committee. Kharge can nominate the members of the Congress Working Committee in consultation with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” he added.

There was a definite indication of the general consensus prior to the start of the Congress Steering Committee meeting that Kharge should be permitted to propose CWC members. It’s interesting to note that two of the meeting’s leaders advocated for CWC elections.

The highest decision-making body of the party is the Congress Working Committee (CWC). There are 23 members in total, with 12 elected and 11 proposed by the party leader.

Around 25 years ago, the CWC’s most recent election took place. The Gandhis missed the steering committee meeting, but they’ll be there on February 24 for the topic committee meeting.
