Ranchi, Feb 24: Former Assistant Director of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, Kolkata, Dr. Manas Ranjan Ray delivering a lecture on the ill effects of pollution on human life at the Paryavaran Mela stressed upon the need of keeping the environment clean.
He warned that if the government system and the society do not take the problem of pollution seriously, then in the coming days, due to air pollution, the number of people who die of cancer will increase not only in the country but in the whole world. He said that till date the steps which should have been taken to prevent pollution were not taken.
Dr. Ray, who came from Kolkata to participate in the Environment Fair being organized under the aegis of Yugantar Bharti and Nature Foundation, said that air pollution is not only affecting almost all parts of the body of the present generation, it is also affecting the coming generations.
“Children are being born underweight, they are coming in the grip of pneumonia, the problem of pregnancy is arising in women. Her menstruation is also getting badly affected. Moreover, due to increasing pollution, the common man is getting more depressed, he is living in depression. He is upset, lightheaded. He does not understand what to do if he does.”
He said that in the survey conducted in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh area it came to light that the children born there do more mischief, are more angry, want more attention, are more stubborn and commit more mischief. On the contrary, the children of many areas of Himachal Pradesh are more polite, more obedient, less angry and more intelligent. According to Dr. Ray, all this happens due to pollution.
He further said that industrial pollution is very high in Chhattisgarh-Delhi. This is affecting the children. Industrial pollution is very less in Himachal, that’s why the children there look decent. This is the difference between polluted and unpolluted areas.
He said that if man has to reduce this pollution, then whatever regulations the government has made, he will have to comply 100 percent. He gave the example of America, where more industries are running than in India and have been running for a long time. Pollution happens there too but it is less. Because the regulators there, do equal checking in it. If someone has done something wrong, then there is no nepotism in punishing him. This is the reason that despite having more industries in America, the pollution is less than in India.
He said that burning incense sticks or incense or smoking bidi-cigarettes at home is equivalent to openly inviting cancer. Burning mosquito wire in the house is very dangerous. Along with this, burning incense is also very dangerous. There are a lot of chemicals in it. These chemicals enter our lungs and not only destroy them, they also cause immense damage to the lungs, heart and kidneys. He said that the most affected by pollution are those people who are diabetic.
Dr. Ray said that pollution happens to be maximum in the winter season and in such weather, any healthy person should never walk from morning till 4 in the afternoon, because at that time the polluted air directly enters your nostrils and affects the lungs etc. During this, pollution happens in line with your nose. The air that you inhale directly enters the lungs and other parts of the body through your nose. If you have to roam then you roam after 4 pm. Anyway, who walks around at 4 in the winter time. It is better that you do some exercise indoors.
Dr. Ray stressed that in this era of pollution one should eat as many green vegetables as he can. Especially everyone must eat tomato chutney or tomato curry. If pocket allows, then sea fishes should be eaten because fat and protein are better in them. Red mutton should never be eaten. Chicken can walk. But, green vegetables are the best option. It must be eaten.
Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University Dr. Ajit Kumar Sinha was the chief guest in the seminar. Dr. MK Jamuar introduced the subject. Dr. PK Singh of INA and Dr. Vimlesh Kumar Singh of Sadar Hospital were present as special guests.
