Sukma, Feb 25: In an encounter with Naxals on Saturday in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, three District Reserve Guard (DRG) security guards were killed, including an assistant sub-inspector, according to the police.

According to Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) P Sundarraj, the event happened on Saturday at 9 a.m. between Jagargunda and Kunded inside the jurisdiction of Jagargunda police station. The official went on to say that the deceased DRG security men were named as Sainik Vanjam Bheema, ASI Ramuram Nag, and Assistant Constable Kunjam Joga.

“This morning, a team of DRG was out on a combing operation and when they reached Jagargunda and Kunded, the Naxals opened firing,” IG said.

The guy went on to explain that security officers started firing back as soon as the naxals opened fire.

Security personnel started an operation after receiving specific information about the presence of naxals and were ambushed. The police source claims that the incident resulted in significant damage to the Naxals as well.

Earlier on February 5, Naxals murdered Neelkanth Kakem, the president of the BJP’s Awapalli mandal in Bijapur.

Sagar Sahu, the BJP vice president in Narayanpur, was shot dead by naxals on February 10; meanwhile, Ramdhar Alami, a former sarpanch, was hacked to death in the Dantewada district on February 11.

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Juneja of Chhattisgarh has addressed a letter to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) asking for an investigation into the killings of public officials in the Bastar region.

The Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P recently presided over a meeting with the office holders of political parties and briefed them on the protocols to be remembered during political rallies, meetings, and movements in vulnerable areas in light of previous incidences.

Former Chief Minister and BJP national vice president Raman Singh has previously blasted the administration over the death of public officials, calling the acts a part of the plot.
