Ranchi, Feb 25: With three prominent colleges in the city including Ranchi Women’s College, Marwari College and St Xavier’s College losing their autonomy, students have begun raising questions about syllabi, examinations and results.

Several students from vocational courses of the three colleges are worried about their syllabi changing, delays in exams and results along with the other issues faced by Ranchi University students in terms of results and exam schedules.

Some professors have also pointed out that the syllabi will be set up as per the syllabi followed under Ranchi University. This has also raised issues regarding the quality of education declining further in the absence of autonomy.

Shreeja Jaiswal, a student in the second year of vocational studies at St Xavier’s College said, “The final-year students will pass out and leave this year. They will have no issues. However, we who have to stay here another year or two have queries. We want to know if merging Xavier’s into RU will affect the syllabi we have. We came here because of the quality of our education. If we wanted RU syllabi, we would have taken admission there. It would even be cheaper.”

Marwari College Principal Dr Manoj Kumar said, “The vocational syllabus in our college is not very different from that of Ranchi University. Maybe a few chapters vary. Hence, we don’t believe there will be any problems for students or teachers.”

On the other hand, regarding the few chapters that are different from the RU syllabus, Dr Kumar said that it will be managed by the university.

Meanwhile, talking in this regard, Ranchi University VC Prof Ajit Kumar Sinha said, “In the case of the autonomous colleges, there was little to no difference in the syllabi of Ranchi University, Ranchi Women’s College and Marwari College, hence I believe they should not have issues in adapting the RU syllabus.”

“Along with this, the syllabus under NEP has been made in such a manner that all universities in Jharkhand will follow the same syllabus for every subject from the next session and exams all over the state will be taken on the same topics under instructions of the then Governor Ramesh Bais. This is because earlier, because of the difference in syllabi, the students could not continue in other universities in emergency cases. However, we needed to make it convenient for students to change universities under NEP because of which, such a step has been taken,” he added.

The VC further said, “In the case of St Xavier’s there will not be an issue. The college will follow the old syllabus for this semester. However, from the next session, the college will follow the university syllabus. If there were any enormous differences, we will accommodate them in the new syllabus.”
