New Delhi, March 11: Virat Kohli scored his 26th half-century on Saturday as India seeks to end Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia in a commanding position. With this, he became only the 5th Indian batter to go past 4,000 runs in Test cricket in India. Earlier, Nathan Lyon dismissed Shubman Gill, ending his magnificent knock. Prior to Lyon gaining advantage because to a gap in focus, Gill hit 128 runs off 235 deliveries.

Virat Kohli, however, has appeared to be in superb form ever since emerging from the centre. He will try to raise India’s total before the game ends. Cheteshwar Pujara went out in the last over before tea, giving Gill 194 deliveries to reach the triple digits. Gill was joined in the middle by Virat Kohli, who has displayed tremendous touch.

Earlier on Day 3, in the morning session, Matthew Kuhnemann ended India’s hot start by dismissing Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, for 34. After skipping out Australia for 480 in the first innings of the match on Friday, India ensured that Day 2 would close without them losing a wicket. At the time of the game’s conclusion, India was 36 for 0, 446 runs behind Australia, with Gill and Rohit both still going strong at the plate.

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Srikar Bharat(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav
